String of Lead Thefts from Norfolk Churches

Published on 5th July 2017

A string of lead thefts has been reported in the Eastern Daily Press newspaper and now four men have admitted being part of a gang that committed the offences.

Among the Church roofs targeted were one of our Churches, St Mary’s, Baconsthorpe, near Holt which was raided between April 26 and 28, causing around £40,000 worth of damage.  Corinne Youngs, secretary of the Baconsthorpe Parochial Church Council said it was the second lead theft in two months and that they were “devastated.”

The Eastern Daily Press has a campaign called ‘Stop the Roof Raiders’ which aims to raise awareness of this region-wide issue.
